Packaging used for transporting cargo must meet several requirements: it must contain information about the load (labels, markings, barcodes) and protect it from any damage.
Types of Cargo Packaging: From Popular to Rare
What types of packaging are there? Quite a few. They include:
- Crating: a fairly popular but not cheap type of packaging, used primarily for transporting expensive equipment. A crate reliably protects the load, including from collisions with other goods being transported.
- Pallet collar (modular): a modern type of packaging for fragile loads, featuring metal edging and a rigid lid.
- Wooden packaging: a versatile type of packaging in logistics in which almost any load can be transported. Wooden containers can be made from various types of wood, from ordinary to very strong, and can be simple or reinforced.
- Glass packaging: made from special, very strong glass; it is convenient for transporting fragile or breakable materials.
- Safe bag: suitable for loads weighing up to 25 kg, guaranteeing not only their safety but also confidentiality.
- Sealable bags: an ideal option for small but fairly valuable loads.
When talking about types of product packaging for transport, a separate group of soft packaging can be identified. It includes cardboard boxes and films – bubble wrap and stretch film. A box is convenient because you can pack items into it, including a disassembled load consisting of several small parts. Various equipment, such as a TV, can be wrapped in polymer film before being placed in a cardboard or wooden container. The film helps prevent scuffs and scratches on the equipment and keeps moisture out.
The specific type of packaging for freight transport is chosen depending on the type of load, its dimensions, the distance over which it is to be carried and the method of transport.
